PRESS RELEASE FRIDAY 11th.FEBRUARY
TRANS-NEEDS The
New Fork Lift Truck Operator Training Centre
The Lord Mayor of Liverpool,
Councillor Joe Devaney, will open the sacked Liverpool dockers new Training
School Trans-Needs on Monday 14th. February at 9.45 AM together with Councillor
George Knibb and representatives from Liverpool City Council, North Liverpool
Partnership and various voluntary groups.
As part of the dockers Initiative
Factory, a voluntary Charity organisation, TRANS-NEEDS will provide flexible
courses on fork lift driving delivering a Road Transport and Industry
Training Board (RTITB) Certificate. We envisage that this new training
facility will be used by both the private and public sectors with a particular
emphasis being placed upon the needs of the long-term unemployed based
within our local Partnership areas. The centre itself was designed and
constructed by the sacked Liverpool dock workers on a voluntary basis
with investment from their organisation, the Initiative Factory. A small
business start-up grant has also been provided by the Liverpool City Council
CBED Office. Following the conclusion of their 28 month dispute with Mersey
Docks the dockers have been involved in developing a community based charitable
organisation called the Initiative Factory delivering IT based music,
digital film and performing arts activities. The Initiative Factory is
currently based within the North Liverpool Regeneration Company and is
will move to 29 Hope Street, the former Casa Blanca Club, later this month.
The Initiative Factory would like to thank everyone involved in this new
project for their support, patience and hard work over the last twelve
months. Particular thanks should go to; George Nibb, the North Liverpool
Regeneration Company, the North Liverpool Partnership, Jerry Spencer,
CBED Office, Councillor Peter Millea, Councillor Chris Newby, Liverpool
City Council Elaine Saunders and Derek Ainsworth, JET Service, Everton
